Fixed

A control, on the site so the doubling can be checked rather than believed. Every wait is two seconds. Nine identical bars, nine identical gaps.

The successive-gap ratio on this page measures 1.000. On the index it measures 2.000, drawn at the same 40 milliseconds to the pixel. Neither page is arguing; they are the same scale with different numbers on it.

A fixed policy is occasionally right, for a dependency with a published recovery window. It is wrong by default, because it asks a broken service the same question at the same rate for as long as it stays broken.

plates

Three attempts under this policy, printed at the exposure each one earned.

The sorting hall at four stops: the aisle and the conveyor frames are legible, the roof is not.
wait 1 · ×16 light
The same frame at the same exposure as the plate above it. Nothing has changed.
wait 5 · ×16 light
The same frame at the same exposure for the third time. A fixed policy sees no more of the room at the ninth attempt than at the first.
wait 9 · ×16 light
